“The Spear That Opened the Heart of Christ: From His Wound Flows Mercy”
📖 Gospel:
Gospel of John 19:34
“One of the
soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed
out.”
🔹 1. INTRODUCTION – A MOMENT THAT CHANGED HISTORY
· “The altar flows from
the wound of the Cross.”
· “Every
Eucharist is a drop from His pierced Heart.”
· “The water
that cleanses… and the blood that saves—flow together.”
· “The
Church drinks daily from the wound of Christ.”
· “Grace is
not imagined—it flowed visibly from His side.”
My dear
brothers and sisters,
There are
moments in history that shake the earth…
But there are moments in salvation history that open heaven itself.
👉 This is
one such moment.
Jesus is
already dead.
The suffering is over.
The insults are finished.
The crowd has gone silent.
And yet…
👉 A soldier
comes forward…
👉 Raises his spear…
👉 And pierces the side of Jesus Christ
💥 Not to
kill…
💥 But to reveal.
👉 From that
wound… flows blood and water.
This is not
just an event.
This is a revelation of the Heart of God.
· “The spear
opened His Heart… so that Heaven could enter yours.”
· “From the
wound we caused… flows the mercy we need.”
· “His Heart
was pierced—not to destroy, but to save.”
🔹 2. THE SCENE – ENTER INTO THE MOMENT
· “A spear touched His
body… but opened eternity.”
· “Love
bled… so mercy could live.”
· “His Heart
broke open… so ours could be made whole.”
· “The
silence of death… gave birth to the voice of mercy.”
· “In that
wound, heaven touched earth.”
Close your
eyes and imagine:
- The Cross stands on Calvary
- The sky is dark
- The body of Jesus hangs lifeless
And
suddenly—
👉 The spear
enters His side.
💔 The Heart
that loved the world… is opened.
And from
that Heart:
- 💧 Water flows
- 🩸 Blood flows
Not anger…
Not punishment…
Not condemnation…
👉 But mercy.
- “Blood and water flowed… because love
could not be contained.”
- “The
Cross reveals this truth: God’s Heart breaks but never closes.”
- “Do
not run from the wound—run into it.”
🔴 “The Wound That Speaks”
They lifted
the spear in silence,
No anger left, no cry—
The Lamb had breathed His final breath,
Beneath a darkened sky.
And then…
that final moment came,
A wound both deep and wide—
Not to take what life remained,
But to open up His side.
💔 And from
that sacred, broken place,
No fire, no judgment poured—
But blood and water gently flowed,
The mercy of the Lord.
O sinner,
do you see it now?
That wound was meant for you—
The Heart you pierced still whispers love,
Still makes all things new.
🔹 3. BIBLICAL FOUNDATION – WHY BLOOD AND WATER?
This is not
accidental.
This is deeply theological.
👉 Blood
- Represents Sacrifice
- Represents Eucharist
- Represents Life given for sinners
👉 Water
- Represents Baptism
- Represents Cleansing
- Represents New birth
👉 From His
side, the Church is born.
As Saint
Augustine of Hippo said:
“The Church
was born from the side of Christ as Eve was formed from the side of Adam.”
💥 The Cross
is not just death.
💥 It is birth.
· “The Heart you pierced
is the Heart calling you back.”
· “Your sin
opened His side… His mercy opens your future.”
· “You may
have wounded Him—but He still welcomes you.”
🔹 4. THEOLOGICAL DEPTH – THE OPEN HEART OF GOD
Why was His
Heart opened?
Because…
👉 God does
not love from a distance.
👉 God loves from a wounded Heart.
This wound
tells us:
- God has nothing hidden from us
- His Heart is fully exposed
- His love is completely poured out
👉 The spear
did not create love…
👉 It revealed the love that was already there
- “Return to the Heart that never rejected you.”
- “That
wound has your name written in mercy.”
- “He was opened… so you would never be
shut out.”
🔴 “From His Side”
From His side… a river began,
Not of sorrow—but of grace,
A flowing stream of mercy deep
For every fallen race.
🩸 Each drop of blood cried out your name,
💧 Each drop of water called—
“Come back, come home, do not delay,
You are forgiven… all.”
No gate was closed, no hand withdrew,
No anger filled His eyes—
For even in His final breath,
His love refused goodbyes.
From His side… the Church was born,
From His side… hope was given—
From His side… the sinner’s path
Was turned again to heaven.
🔹 5. THE REALITY – THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF US
· “The spear touched His
Heart… but His love touches yours.”
· “Even in
death, His Heart was still giving.”
· “His
silence on the Cross speaks through His open Heart.”
Let us be
honest.
👉 That spear
was not just held by a soldier
👉 It was held by our sins
- Our pride pierced Him
- Our lies pierced Him
- Our impurity pierced Him
- Our indifference pierced Him
💥 We caused
that wound.
And yet…
👉 From that
wound… comes mercy.
Not
revenge.
Not rejection.
👉 Mercy.
🔴 “The Heart We Pierced”
We thought
the Cross had ended all,
That death had sealed His fate—
But love had one last gift to give,
Before it closed the gate.
A soldier
came with hardened hands,
A spear both cold and grim—
Yet what he struck was not just flesh…
It was the Heart of Him.
💥 The Heart
that loved without return,
The Heart we chose to break—
And still it opened, wide and free,
For every sinner’s sake.
O what kind
of love is this,
That bleeds, yet does not blame?
That bears the wound of all our sins,
Yet calls us each by name?
🔹 6. THE GREAT PARADOX – WOUND THAT HEALS
In human
life:
- Wounds bring pain
- Wounds bring death
But in
Christ:
👉 The wound
becomes the source of healing.
As Saint
Faustina Kowalska revealed:
“From the
Heart of Jesus flowed Divine Mercy for the whole world.”
💥 The very
place of suffering becomes the place of salvation.
· “From His side flows the
Church… and your salvation.”
· “The
fountain of grace began at the wound of Christ.”
· “Every
drop of blood speaks forgiveness.”
🔹 7. THE SACRAMENTS FLOW FROM THIS WOUND
This moment
is not just symbolic.
👉 It is
sacramental.
From this
wound flow:
- 💧 Baptism – cleansing of sin
- 🩸 Eucharist – nourishment of the soul
👉 Every
sacrament is connected to this moment.
Whenever
you receive grace—
👉 You are
drinking from the pierced Heart of Christ.
· “Every drop of water
whispers new life.”
· “The
pierced Heart is the birthplace of mercy.”
🔹 8. ILLUSTRATION – THE HEART THAT NEVER CLOSES
Imagine a
hospital:
- Patients come wounded
- Broken
- Dying
But the
doors are always open.
👉 That is
the Heart of Christ.
Even when
pierced…
Even when wounded…
👉 It does
not close.
It opens
wider.
🔹 9. THE CRY OF THE HUMAN HEART
Every human
heart is crying:
- “Who will forgive me?”
- “Who will accept me?”
- “Who will heal me?”
And the
answer is:
👉 The
pierced Heart of Jesus.
💥 That wound
is not a sign of defeat
💥 It is a doorway of hope
· “The spear did not end
His life… it revealed His Heart.”
· “What the
spear opened, eternity can never close.”
· “The
deepest wound became the greatest revelation.”
🔹 10. SPIRITUAL DIAGNOSIS
- “His Heart was hidden in life… but
revealed in death.”
- “The
Cross did not silence love—it uncovered it.”
- “Mercy did not begin after the Cross—it flowed from it.”
Let us
examine ourselves:
👉 Why are we
far from God?
- Is it sin?
- Is it guilt?
- Is it fear?
- Is it shame?
Listen
carefully:
👉 The Heart
you are afraid of…
👉 Is the Heart that is open for you.
🔴 “Do Not Turn Away”
Do not turn
away from Him,
Though your sins are deep and wide—
For the place you fear to enter
Is the wound within His side.
That
opening is not for shame,
Nor judgment harsh and cold—
It is the door of mercy wide,
Still open as of old.
👉 Come as
you are, broken and lost,
Come with your hidden pain—
For the Heart that you have pierced
Still calls you back again.
Do not
delay, do not resist,
Do not choose to roam—
The wound of Christ is calling you:
“My child… come home.”
🔹 11. STORY
There was
once a man who lived in deep sin.
He said:
“I cannot
go to God… I am too unworthy.”
A priest
told him:
👉 “Go stand
before the crucifix and look at His Heart.”
He did.
And he
wept.
Because he
realized:
👉 That Heart
was pierced for him.
That day,
he returned to God.
🔹 12. THE CALL TO CONVERSION
· “If His Heart is open…
why is yours closed?”
· “The wound
is real—so is the mercy.”
· “You
cannot outrun a love that has been pierced for you.”
· “The Cross
is not the end—it is the opening of God’s Heart.”
· “His Heart
was pierced once… but it keeps loving forever.”
My dear
brothers and sisters,
👉 The spear
has already opened the Heart of Christ
👉 The question is—
👉 Will you enter that Heart?
Do not
delay.
Do not say
“tomorrow.”
👉 Today is
the day of mercy.
· “From the place of pain…
came the river of grace.”
· “The wound
became a fountain that never runs dry.”
· “Where sin
struck deepest… mercy flowed strongest.”
· “The spear
reached His Heart… but mercy reached the world.”
🔴 “The Open Heart”
Pierced…
yet pouring love,
Broken… yet making whole,
Silent… yet speaking mercy
To every wounded soul.
Opened…
never closed,
Given… without measure—
The Heart of Christ still beats today,
An endless stream of treasure.
Wounded… yet welcoming.
Broken… yet saving.
🔹 13. TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
Remember
this:
👉 The Heart
of Jesus is open forever
👉 His mercy flows endlessly
👉 No sin is greater than His love
👉 The wound that we caused… is the wound that saves us
💥 “The door
of His Heart is open—even for the one who pierced it.”
- “It was not just a soldier… it was my sin
that pierced Him.”
- “The wound you fear is the mercy you
need.”
- “Do not hide your sins from the Heart
that was opened for them.”
- “Every time we sin, we pierce again—yet
He still forgives.”
- “The Heart we ignore… is the Heart that
saves us.”
🔹 14. CONCLUSION – THE FINAL INVITATION
🔴 Invitation to Return
- “Come to the wound—there is healing
there.”
- “Enter through His side… and find your
place in His Heart.”
- “The door of mercy is not locked—it is
pierced open.”
- “Do not stand outside… the Heart is open
for you.”
- “Run not from God… but into His wounded
Heart.”
My dear
brothers and sisters,
Stand
before the Cross today.
Look at
Him.
👉 Look at
His pierced side
👉 Look at His open Heart
And hear
this:
👉 “This is
for you.”
Not for
someone else.
Not for the saints alone.
👉 For you.
Do not walk
away.
Do not
remain unchanged.
👉 Let that
wound break your heart
👉 Let that mercy transform your life
Because one
day—
👉 That Heart
will not be seen as wounded…
👉 But as Judge.
And today…
👉 It is
still Mercy.
🔴 “The Last Gift”
When all
was done… He gave one more,
One final act of grace—
Not words, not breath, not miracle,
But love no death could erase.
A spear was
raised… a moment passed…
And then the Heart was shown—
The deepest place of God Himself,
No longer left unknown.
🩸 Blood for
the sinner…
💧 Water for the soul…
From that wound flowed everything
That makes the broken whole.
The last
gift of a dying God—
Not silence, not despair—
But an open Heart that cries aloud:
“I am still with you… there.”
🔹 15. PRAYER
Lord Jesus,
Your Heart was pierced on the Cross,
and from that sacred wound flowed blood and water for our salvation.
We come before Your opened side,
recognizing that our sins caused that wound,
yet Your mercy continues to flow for us.
Cleanse us with Your precious blood,
wash us in the living water of Your grace,
and heal the brokenness within our hearts.
Draw us into Your pierced Heart,
that we may find forgiveness, strength, and new life in You.
Help us never to turn away from Your mercy,
but to live always close to Your loving Heart.
Remain with us, Lord, and lead us to eternal life.
Amen.
