Homily: ✝️ 5th SUNDAY OF EASTER – YEAR A - 🔥 Theme: “From Broken Stones to Living Stones: Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life” - Scripture Readings: 1st Reading: Acts 6:1-7; Responsorial Psalm: 33; 2nd Reading: 1 Peter 2:4-9; Gospel: John 14:1-12.
✝️ 5th SUNDAY OF EASTER – YEAR A
🔥 Theme: “From Broken Stones to Living
Stones: Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life”
🔥 1. INTRODUCTION
My dear
brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today’s
Word of God confronts us with a life-changing question:
❓ What kind of Church are
we building?
❓ What kind of life are we living?
Are we:
- ⚠️ A complaining community?
- 😔 A neglected people?
- 😟 A confused generation?
OR
Are we:
- 🧱 Living Stones
- ✝️ Built on Christ
- 🔥 Filled with mission and purpose
Today’s
readings move us from:
➡️ Complaint → Calling
➡️ Stone → Living Stone
➡️ Confusion → Clarity
➡️ Fear → Faith
💔 2. THE CRY OF THE HUMAN HEART
Even today,
hearts are crying silently:
- 😢 “No one understands me…”
- 😞 “I feel ignored…”
- 😕 “I don’t know which way to go…”
- 😰 “My life is full of confusion…”
📖 The early
Church had the same pain:
“Their
widows were being neglected” (Acts 6:1)
👉 The human
heart longs for:
- ❤️ Belonging
- 🧭 Direction
- 👁️ Recognition
- 🌱 Meaning
📖 3. BIBLICAL FOUNDATION
📖 3.1. FIRST READING – ACTS 6:1–7
🔥 “FROM DIVISION TO DIVINE ORDER: THE BIRTH OF MINISTRY”
🧠 3.1.1.
THEOLOGICAL DEPTH
This
passage is not just about food distribution…
👉 It is about the very identity and structure of the Church.
The early
Church is growing rapidly—but growth brings tension.
📖
“The
Hellenists complained… because their widows were neglected” (Acts 6:1)
✝️ TWO WORLDS COLLIDE:
- Hebrews →
Local, traditional Jews
- Hellenists → Greek-speaking, marginalized believers
👉 This is
not just a social issue—it is an ecclesiological crisis.
🔥 3.1.2. THE CHURCH AS “OPERATION THEATER”
The Church
is not a museum of saints…
👉 It is an operation theater for wounded sinners.
And here:
- The wound = neglect
- The infection = division
- The risk = breakdown of communion
🕊️ 3.1.3. APOSTOLIC DISCERNMENT
📖
“It is not
right that we should neglect the word of God…” (Acts 6:2)
This is NOT
rejection of service…
👉 It is right ordering of mission.
🔺 TWO PILLARS OF THE CHURCH:
- 📖 Word (Proclamation)
- 🍞 Service (Charity)
👉 The Church
collapses if either is neglected.
🙌 3.1.4. BIRTH OF THE DIACONATE
The
apostles choose seven men:
📖 “Full of
the Spirit and of wisdom” (Acts 6:3)
👉 Ministry
is not about skill alone…
It is about Spirit-filled character.
🌱 3.1.5.
FRUIT OF RIGHT ORDER
📖 “The word
of God continued to spread… disciples increased” (Acts 6:7)
👉 When the
Church is rightly ordered:
- Growth happens
- Unity deepens
- Mission expands
❤️ 3.1.6.
HEART-TOUCHING MESSAGE
👉 Where
there is a complaint, God calls for responsibility
👉 Where there is neglect, God raises servants
👉 Where there is division, God builds communion
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Original Insights
“The Church
is not weakened by problems, but by neglected love.”
“A
complaint is not noise, but a call to serve.”
“When Word and service walk together, the Church stands unshaken.”
🕊️ Saint’s Voice
💬 Saint John
Chrysostom
“Feeding the hungry is the highest liturgy; where love fails, the altar is
empty.”
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Poetic Reflection
Where
silent wounds began to speak,
God raised the humble and the meek;
Through ordered love the Church was healed—
And grace in brokenness revealed.
🎶 3.2. RESPONSORIAL PSALM – PSALM 33
🔥 “THE SPIRITUAL HEARTBEAT: TRUST IN GOD”
🧠 3.2.1. THEOLOGY OF TRUST
📖 “The eye
of the Lord is on those who fear Him” (Psalm 33:18)
👉 God is not
distant—He is watching, caring, guiding.
✝️ 3.2.2. PROVIDENCE OF GOD
📖 “He who
formed the hearts of all” (Psalm 33:15)
👉 God knows:
- Your struggles
- Your hidden wounds
- Your silent prayers
🕊️ 3.2.3. TRUST VS CONTROL
Human
tendency:
- Control everything
- Fear everything
But the Psalm
teaches:
📖
“Our soul
waits for the Lord” (Psalm 33:20)
👉 Waiting is
not a weakness…
👉 It is faith in action.
❤️ 3.2.4. HEART MESSAGE
👉 When the
Church trusts God → Peace
👉 When the family trusts God → Unity
👉 When the individual trusts God → Stability
🧱 3.3. SECOND READING – 1 PETER 2:4–9
🔥 “IDENTITY TRANSFORMATION: FROM NOBODY TO GOD’S PEOPLE”
🧠 3.3.1. CHRIST THE LIVING STONE
📖 “A living
stone rejected by men but chosen by God” (1 Peter 2:4)
👉 Jesus is:
- Rejected by the world
- Chosen by the Father
👉 This is
the paradox of Christianity.
🧱 3.3.2. ECCLESIOLOGY: THE CHURCH AS TEMPLE
📖 “Like
living stones… built into a spiritual house” (1 Peter 2:5)
👉 The Church
is not:
- ❌ A building
- ❌ A structure
👉 It is:
- 🧱 Living people
- 🕊️ Spirit-filled community
✝️ 3.3.3. PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS
📖 “A holy
priesthood… to offer spiritual sacrifices” (1 Peter 2:5)
👉 Every
Christian is:
- A priest
- A mediator
- A witness
Not
passive… but active.
👑 3.3.4. IDENTITY DECLARATION
📖 “You are a
chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:9)
👉 This is a revolutionary
identity:
From:
- ❌ Rejected → ✅ Chosen
- ❌ Ordinary → ✅ Royal
- ❌ Lost → ✅ God’s people
🔥 3.3.5. MISSION PURPOSE
📖 “That you
may proclaim His mighty acts” (1 Peter 2:9)
👉 Identity
leads to mission.
You are not
chosen for comfort…
👉 You are chosen for proclamation.
❤️ 3.3.6. HEART MESSAGE
👉 Stop
seeing yourself as weak
👉 Start seeing yourself as chosen
👉 You are
not just attending Church…
👉 You ARE the Church.
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Original Insights
“To be
chosen is not our achievement, but God’s declaration.”
“The stone rejected by the world becomes God’s chosen foundation.”
“In Christ, the forgotten are formed into a living temple.”
“To be chosen by God is to carry a dignity no world can erase.”
🕊️ Saint’s Voice
💬 Saint
Augustine of Hippo
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they
rest in You.”
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Poetic Reflection
Rejected
once, now chosen bright,
Set in grace and shaped in light;
In Christ we rise, no more alone—
A living house, by God made known.
✝️ 3.4. GOSPEL – JOHN 14:1–12
🔥 “Entering the Divine Mystery: Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the
Life”
🧠 CONTEXT OF FEAR
Jesus
speaks before His Passion.
Disciples
are:
- 😨 Afraid
- 😔 Confused
- 😢 Uncertain
📖 “Do not
let your hearts be troubled” (John 14:1)
🔥 3.4.1. THE CONTEXT: A CRISIS OF ABSENCE AND FEAR
This
passage is spoken at the Last Supper, just before the Cross.
The
disciples are not calm—they are:
- 😨 Experiencing existential fear
- 😔 Facing the loss of Jesus
- 🌑 Entering darkness without clarity
👉 Jesus is
not giving a lecture.
👉 He is revealing divine reality in a moment of human collapse.
📖 “Do not
let your hearts be troubled” (John 14:1)
🧠 THEOLOGICAL INSIGHT:
The Greek
word for “troubled” (tarassō) means:
👉 Agitated, shaken, inwardly disturbed
👉 Jesus is
addressing the chaos of the human heart.
🏠 3.4.2. “IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE…” — ESCHATOLOGICAL HOPE
📖 “In my
Father’s house are many dwelling places” (John 14:2)
🔍 DEEP INSIGHT:
The word
“dwelling places” (monai) does NOT mean mansions.
👉 It means abiding
places of communion.
This
connects directly to:
📖 “Abide in
me, and I in you” (John 15:4)
✝️ THEOLOGY:
Heaven is
not:
- ❌ A physical location
- ❌ A reward space
👉 It is participation
in the life of God.
👉 Salvation
= Entering divine communion (Trinitarian life)
🔥 3.4.3. “I
GO TO PREPARE A PLACE” — THE CROSS AS PREPARATION
📖 “I go to
prepare a place for you” (John 14:2)
🧠 REVOLUTIONARY INSIGHT:
Jesus
prepares the place NOT by construction…
👉 but by crucifixion.
👉 The Cross
is not tragedy—it is cosmic preparation.
Through the
Cross:
- Sin is removed
- Access to the Father is opened
📖 “Through
him we have access to the Father” (Ephesians 2:18)
🧭 3.4.4. THOMAS’ QUESTION — THE HUMAN CONDITION
📖 “Lord, we
do not know where you are going” (John 14:5)
This is not
ignorance—
👉 This is human confusion before divine mystery.
Thomas
represents:
- Our doubts
- Our need for clarity
- Our demand for certainty
🔥 3.4.5. “I AM THE WAY” — THE PATH OF PARTICIPATION
📖 “I am the
way” (John 14:6)
🧠 NOT A ROAD — BUT A REALITY
Jesus does
not give directions.
👉 He becomes the path.
✝️ EARLY CHURCH INSIGHT:
Christianity
was first called:
📖 “The Way”
(Acts 9:2)
🔥 THEOLOGICAL DEPTH:
👉 “Way” = Participation
in Christ’s life
To follow
the Way means:
- To enter His obedience
- To walk His Cross
- To live His surrender
📖 “Take up
your cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)
💡 PATRISTIC INSIGHT:
👉 The
Fathers said:
“Christ is
the Way because He leads us through His humanity into His divinity.”
❤️ Jesus is not showing a map…
👉 He is saying: “Enter into me.”
🔥 3.4.6. “I AM THE TRUTH” — THE REVELATION OF GOD
📖 “I am the
truth” (John 14:6)
🧠 TRUTH IN JOHN’S GOSPEL
Truth (aletheia)
means:
👉 Unveiling reality as it truly is
✝️ CHRISTOLOGICAL DEPTH:
Jesus is:
- Not a teacher of truth
- Not a philosopher
👉 He is Truth
incarnate
📖 “The Word
became flesh” (John 1:14)
🔥 THEOLOGICAL EXPLOSION:
Truth is
not:
- ❌ Concept
- ❌ Doctrine alone
👉 Truth = A
Person revealing the Father
📖 “Grace and
truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17)
💡 RADICAL IMPLICATION:
To reject
Christ =
👉 To reject reality itself.
❤️ Truth is not something you argue…
👉 Truth is someone you encounter.
🔥 3.4.7. “I AM THE LIFE” — DIVINE LIFE (ZOE)
📖 “I am the
life” (John 14:6)
🧠 TWO TYPES OF LIFE:
- Bios →
Biological life
- Zoe →
Divine life
👉 Jesus
speaks of Zoe: Divine Life.
✝️ THEOLOGICAL DEPTH:
👉 Life = Participation
in God’s own being
📖 “I came
that they may have life… abundantly” (John 10:10)
🔥 RESURRECTION DIMENSION:
This life:
- Defeats death
- Transforms suffering
- Gives eternal meaning
💡 SACRAMENTAL INSIGHT:
We receive
this life through:
- Baptism
- Eucharist
📖 “Whoever
eats my flesh… has eternal life” (John 6:54)
❤️ Without Christ → existence
👉 With Christ → LIFE
🔥 3.4.8. “NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME”
📖 “No one
comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
🧠 EXCLUSIVITY WITH LOVE
This is not
exclusion…
👉 It is the only bridge God has given.
✝️ THEOLOGICAL TRUTH:
Jesus is:
- The mediator
- The bridge
- The access
📖 “There is
one mediator… Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5)
❤️ Many paths may exist…
👉 But only one leads to the Father.
🔥 3.4.9. “WHOEVER HAS SEEN ME HAS SEEN THE FATHER”
📖 “Whoever
has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9)
🧠 CHRISTOLOGICAL CLIMAX
Jesus is:
👉 The visible image of the invisible God
📖 “He is the
image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15)
✝️ TRINITARIAN DEPTH:
👉 Jesus does
not merely represent God
👉 He reveals God perfectly
💡 INCARNATION MYSTERY:
👉 God
becomes visible, touchable, knowable.
❤️ If you want to know God…
👉 Look at Jesus.
🔥 3.4.10. “GREATER WORKS THAN THESE…”
📖 “You will
do greater works” (John 14:12)
🧠 SHOCKING PROMISE
How can we
do greater works than Jesus?
✝️ THEOLOGICAL ANSWER:
Because:
- Jesus returns to the Father
- The Spirit is given
- The Church expands globally
👉 The
mission multiplies.
💡 ECCLESIOLOGICAL INSIGHT:
👉 The Church
is the continuation of Christ’s work.
❤️ Christ works THROUGH you.
🔥 FINAL SYNTHESIS
Jesus is
not:
- A guide → He is the Way
- A teacher → He is the Truth
- A helper → He is the Life
🔥 In your
confusion — walk the Way
🔥 In your doubt — embrace the Truth
🔥 In your emptiness — receive the Life
🔥
Christianity is not a religion…
👉 It is union with Christ.
All
readings converge into ONE MESSAGE:
🔗 ACTS → Structure of the Church
🎶 PSALM → Heart of the Church
🧱 PETER → Identity of the Church
✝️ JOHN → Foundation of the Church
🎯 The Church is not collapsing—
It is being refined.
🔥 You are
not rejected—
You are chosen.
🔥 Life is
not directionless—
Christ is the Way.
🔥 Truth is
not confusion—
Christ is the Truth.
🔥 Life is
not emptiness—
Christ is the Life.
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Original Insights
“Christ is
not a way to follow, but the life to enter.”
“Truth is
not taught by Christ, but revealed as Christ.”
“Life without Christ is existence; life in Christ is eternity begun.”
🕊️ Saint’s Voice
💬 Saint
Thomas Aquinas
“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary; to one without faith, no
explanation is possible.”
✍️ Dr. Addanki Raju – Poetic Reflection
No path but
Him, no truth beside,
No life apart from Him who died;
In Him the Father’s face we see—
Our end, our way, eternity.
🧠 4. THEOLOGICAL DEPTH
✝️ 4.1. The Church: Human + Divine
- 👥 Human → weakness, complaints
- 🕊️ Divine → Spirit-led solutions
👉 The Church
struggles… but God guides.
🧱 4.2. Christ the Cornerstone
📖 “The stone
rejected… has become the cornerstone” (Psalm 118:22)
👉 Rejection
is not the end—
It is God’s beginning.
🔥 4.3. “I AM” Identity of Jesus
Jesus does
not say:
- ❌ “I show the way”
- ❌ “I teach truth”
He says:
👉 “I AM”
(John 14:6)
📖 Echo of:
“I AM WHO I
AM” (Exodus 3:14)
🔺 4.4. Trinity Revealed
📖
“I am in
the Father, and the Father is in me” (John 14:10)
👉 Perfect
unity
👉 Perfect revelation
🪞 5. SPIRITUAL DIAGNOSIS
Let us
examine ourselves:
- ❓ Am I a complaining Christian?
- ❓ Am I a passive stone?
- ❓ Am I searching for many ways instead of Christ?
⚠️ Today’s danger:
- Following 🌍 world more than ✝️
Christ
- Choosing comfort over calling
- Confusion over conviction
📚 6. ILLUSTRATIONS
🧱 The Rejected Stone
A stone
rejected… later becomes the cornerstone.
👉 That is
Christ.
👉 That is YOU.
🧭 GPS Without Destination
A man
drives with a GPS but no destination.
👉 Many know
Jesus…
But don’t follow Him.
❤️ Mother Teresa
She saw
Jesus in the poor:
💬 “Each one
is Jesus in disguise.”
👉 Living
stones serve the living Christ.
🏛️ 7. PASTORAL REFLECTION (Message to the Church)
🔊 7.1. Listen to People
No one must
feel neglected.
🙌 7.2. Empower Everyone
Every baptised
person has a mission.
🧱 7.3. Build Living Community
Church is
not building…
It is people.
📢 7.4. Proclaim Christ Boldly
👉 One Way:
Jesus.
🎯 8. PRACTICAL APPLICATION
v 📖 Daily Prayer & Scripture

v 🏡 Build Family Unity
v 🙏 Trust in Difficult Times
“Do not let your hearts be
troubled” (John 14:1)

💡 9. ORIGINAL SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS
- ✝️ The Church grows through faithfulness, not perfection
- 🧱 Every believer is a stone in God’s temple
- 🔥 Problems become a mission when Spirit leads
- 🧭 Christ is not an option—He is the foundation
🔥 10. CONCLUSION
My dear
brothers and sisters,

journey is clear:
➡️ Complaint → Service
➡️ Fear → Faith

Even if the
world rejects you…
👉 God is
shaping you.
👉 Christ is leading you.
👉 The Spirit is empowering you.
Say with
conviction:

🔥 “Lord, You are my Life!”
🙏 11. PRAYER
Lord Jesus
Christ,
You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
🕊️ In
confusion, guide us.

❤️ In division, unite us.
Help us to trust You always and follow You
faithfully.
May our lives proclaim Your glory.
You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
When we are divided—unite us.
When we are weak—strengthen us.
When we are lost—guide us.
Make us living stones in Your Church,
Bold witnesses of Your truth,
And faithful servants of Your mission.
Amen.
